ABOUT US

For nearly fifty years, the Purdue Institute for Cancer Research has been recognized as a National Cancer Institute (NCI)-designated basic science center—a distinction held by only seven U.S. institutions. The designation reflects our scientific excellence and underscores our commitment to uncovering the causes of and solutions for one of the most devastating diseases of our time.

A commitment to scientific progress

Our mission

The Purdue Institute for Cancer Research (PICR) is committed to improving lives through pioneering scientific discoveries that deepen the world’s understanding of cancer. We advance cutting-edge technologies and medicines to detect, prevent, and treat cancer while empowering tomorrow’s cancer research workforce.

SHAPING THE FUTURE

Our vision

Our vision is to make all cancers detectable, treatable and curable through groundbreaking scientific discoveries and to develop innovative therapeutics and diagnostic tools.

Our core values

Rooted in Purdue’s land-grant mission, PICR’s values guide everything we do, from discovery in the lab to forming partnerships with our community. These principles reflect our commitment to science, innovation, and a shared purpose of improving health by reducing the burden of cancer.

Collaboration: We foster teamwork and partnerships among scientists, clinicians, and patients to accelerate discoveries and enhance treatment options.

Integrity: We uphold the highest ethical standards in research and practice.

Research: We strive to push the boundaries of science, encouraging creativity and the pursuit of novel ideas to develop new therapies and improve patient outcomes.

Compassion: We prioritize patient care and well-being in all research endeavors.

Learning: We are committed to the continuous training and development of cancer researchers to ensure a knowledgeable and skilled workforce.

Excellence: We seek to attain the highest quality in research, education and training.

Service: We engage with local, regional and national communities to communicate scientific breakthroughs and to foster the public’s interest and awareness of the importance of scientific research and technology in providing new cancer treatments.

Who we are

PICR is driven by a dedicated team of investigators, scientists-in-training, administrative professionals, and development staff. Together, we fuel discoveries that advance the fight against cancer and improve lives around the world.

Our leadership

The institute is focused on promoting basic discovery, facilitating transdisciplinary collaborative research, improving the drug discovery pipeline and enhancing the movement of discoveries toward application. Our leadership builds on the center’s core strengths and enables us to drive research toward solutions of major cancer issues.

The Executive Committee, comprised of senior leadership and research program leaders, have dedicated their careers to discovering a cure. They drive the institute’s mission and research, meeting monthly to review research progress, set goals and track results.

what drives our science

A message from Deputy Director Andrea Kasinski

Our work starts with fundamental questions about how cancer begins, adapts and persists. As a basic research center, we’re focused on exploring the mechanisms that drive cancer in order to uncover better tools, targets and outcomes. What makes PICR stand out is the depth of expertise across disciplines and the resources we have to accelerate discovery, from state-of-the-art imaging to shared core facilities. This is a place where curiosity is backed by technical strength and collaboration is a catalyst for meaningful progress in cancer research.
