Our RESEARCH

The fight against cancer begins in the laboratory, where the Purdue Institute for Cancer Research is uncovering cancer’s causes and developing tomorrow’s treatments. As one of only seven National Cancer Institute-designated basic science cancer centers, PICR researchers have driven the creation of life-changing inventions, therapies, and imaging agents, including three FDA-approved cancer drugs and agents.

COLLABORATIVE RESEARCH

Scientific programs

Three scientific programs form the backbone of our research efforts, uniting investigators from across fields to address major questions in cancer research. Each scientific program focuses on defined themes and promotes collaboration that catalyzes discovery beyond the scope of individual labs. Guided by strong leadership and supported by competitive funding, these programs drive innovation and keep our research aligned with national cancer priorities.

Impact Areas

Key areas of research impact

Our research spans a wide range of cancers, technologies, and treatment strategies. These impact areas highlight where our science has the greatest potential to improve lives. From pediatric cancers to early detection, new therapies, and even cancer in companion animals, each area connects discoveries in our labs to real-world challenges faced by patients, families, and communities. Together, they reflect our commitment to advancing cancer research that makes a difference in Indiana and beyond.

Tyler Trent Pediatric Cancer Research Center

The Tyler Trent Pediatric Cancer Research Center is advancing discoveries to improve outcomes for children with rare and aggressive cancers. Learn how our scientists are honoring Tyler’s legacy through research that brings new hope to young patients and their families.
